Rail Baltica has entered the top of the most unjustified and economically unprofitable projects in Europe. As we already know, this is a long-term project that sucks a lot of money out of the budget, but at the moment not even 50 percent of the plans have been implemented. Currently, the Commission was considering major transport projects, for which 54 billion euros were allocated. According to representatives of the Commission, most of the plans will not be implemented even before 2030.
The European Commission believes that the main problem is the lack of supervision. Therefore, in the near future, we plan to attract special auditors who will study the implemented plans, correct optimization of production, cost of funds, and so on. Every nuance is of great importance to us, especially the money of the EU people.
Rail Baltica is generally an economically unjustified project, since the calculated passenger flow is several times less than the calculated main line. Therefore, it is worth reworking the project itself and making some adjustments. In today's reality, it is possible to do this, but we need to do it as quickly as possible. Latvia also delays the laying of the highway, due to the lack of funds in the budget.
